New Farm Homes

We took these photos a couple of weeks ago while in New Farm, just east of Brisbane City.  Helen was looking for a suitable spot for a university project while on the way to lunch at Cafe Bouquiniste.  So many beautiful homes there.  I particularly love the old Queensland worker's cottage in the third, beautifully restored and tucked in behind a big green leafy tree.

Viewpoint

A few months back I came across this property while browsing through a local magazine.  Located on an elevated site near Cunningham's Gap this house takes in panoramic views of the mountains and extensive farming land.  Apart from the fact that it is some way inland from the sea this region would be perfect for us as a country retreat.  We'll continue to dream....  Stunning!

A House in Design

This week I reworked the facades of a house that I had designed for some good friends of ours.  The latest changes are a vast improvement.  This house will sit on a long, thin site.  The entry is approached via a boardwalk which has a pergola overhead.  The open space living, dining and kitchen areas spill out onto a deck to the rear and along the side of the lower level.  These spaces are set down from the entry level so as to achieve higher ceilings internally and to ensure the deck floats at a comfortable height above the ground to the rear of the site.  The upper level contains generous private spaces including four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a library.
