Versailles... where to even begin! Visiting Versailles would have to be one of the most visually overwhelming experiences I have ever had. The palace and its interiors are covered in the most intricate and ornate detail at every turn not to mention the surrounding gardens and fountains. Every surface was highly decorated with carvings, paintings, plaster work, upholstery and gold gilding. These images are just a handful of some of the salons and halls we came across on our visit through the main palace. The famous hall of mirrors with its myriad of chandeliers was indeed one of the most stunning rooms and of course the floor to ceiling floral and gold gilded bed room of Marie Antoinette was completely over the top in lavish decorative detail... and that's not even getting to the Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon! More about those later...
